Growing a Greener Tomorrow: Little Green House Celebrates Tree Planting Day with Senior Minister Mr Lee Hsien Loong

On 3rd November 2024, students from the Little Green House Serangoon 540 branch participated in the Tree Planting Day 2024, organised by Ang Mo Kio Town Council. This event was an important milestone as it marked the 10,000th tree to be planted in Ang Mo Kio Town.

It was an honour for participants to meet Senior Minister Mr Lee Hsien Loong in person at the event, who planted a Pink Mempat tree with two of our students. As Senior Minister Mr Lee Hsien Loong mentioned in his Facebook post, “Tree planting is one of the ways we are transforming Singapore into a #CityinNature, a key goal of our SG Green Plan. Trees make our living environment pleasant. They also mitigate the Urban Heat Island effect and reduce the impact of climate change.”

Through their participation in Tree Planting Day 2024, the children from Little Green House gained valuable insights into environmental sustainability and the importance of preserving nature. They learned how trees contribute to a healthier environment by reducing the Urban Heat Island effect, improving air quality, and combating climate change—key goals of Singapore’s transformation into a #CityinNature under the SG Green Plan.

Additionally, the event provided the children with a deeper understanding of community efforts in sustainability, as they witnessed the symbolic planting of the 10,000th tree in Ang Mo Kio Town. These hands-on experiences not only nurtured their awareness of environmental issues but also instilled a sense of responsibility to care for the planet, making the day both educational and memorable.
